Coin Buyers in NYC - Sell Gold Coins, Silver Coins and Collections for Cash at DD Buyers

Sell Gold and Silver Coins in NYC for Cash - Live Spot Pricing, Paid the Same Day

Gold Eagles from a retirement account, a jar of pre-1965 quarters from a parent’s closet, a Krugerrand bought in the 1980s, a graded Morgan dollar collection: coins come to DD Buyers in every form, and we buy all of them. We are coin buyers in New York City’s Diamond District, at 55 West 47th Street, Suite 203A, and we price gold and silver coins against the live spot market on the day you walk in. The appraisal is free, it happens in front of you, and you are paid in cash or by card before you leave. We also sell gold in NYC in jewelry and bar form, so a mixed box of coins, chains and bars can be handled in one visit.

There is no appointment to make. We are open seven days a week from 10 AM to 6 PM, including Saturdays and Sundays when most coin dealers in Midtown are closed, and we are two minutes from the 47-50 St Rockefeller Center subway.

Why the Diamond District Has the Best Coin Buyers in Manhattan

Coins are the easiest precious-metal item to price and the easiest to underpay for. A bullion coin has a known weight and purity, so its metal value can be worked out to the dollar from the spot price. The only question is how much of that value a buyer passes on to you, and that depends on where you sell.

A coin shop outside the city, a mall kiosk or a “we buy gold” storefront typically pays well under the metal value because they resell to a wholesaler who takes another cut. On West 47th Street there is no wholesaler in between. DD Buyers sells coins directly into the Diamond District market and to collectors, which is why we can pay a percentage of spot that buyers elsewhere in New York cannot match. On ten 1 oz Gold Eagles the difference between a Diamond District offer and a suburban offer can run into the thousands of dollars.

The second advantage is expertise. A buyer who only knows melt value will pay melt value for a pre-1933 $20 Double Eagle or a key-date Morgan dollar that is worth far more to a collector. Our appraisers check every coin for numismatic value before we quote, and we tell you when a coin is worth more than its gold or silver content.

Gold Coins We Buy in NYC

Any gold coin from any mint, in any year and any condition. The ones New Yorkers bring us most often:

American Gold Eagle

The US Mint’s bullion coin since 1986. Struck in 22-karat (.9167 fine) gold, but a 1 oz Eagle still contains a full troy ounce of pure gold because the coin weighs slightly more than an ounce. We buy 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz Eagles, proof and burnished editions, and the 2021 Type 2 redesign.

American Gold Buffalo

The US Mint’s 24-karat (.9999 fine) coin, introduced in 2006 with the 1913 Buffalo nickel design. Proof Buffalos from certain years carry a collector premium above metal value, and we price those individually.

Canadian Gold Maple Leaf

.9999 fine, one of the purest bullion coins made, in sizes from 1 oz down to 1/20 oz. Older Maple Leafs often have small marks on the soft pure gold surface; that is normal and does not reduce the bullion price.

South African Krugerrand

The original modern bullion coin, minted since 1967, 22-karat with exactly one troy ounce of gold in the 1 oz size. Krugerrands bought decades ago are among the most common coins we see from estates in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.

Austrian Philharmonic, British Britannia, Australian Kangaroo and Chinese Panda

All bought at bullion value, with collector premiums paid on proof and low-mintage years. Pandas are weighed carefully because the mint changed the coin’s weight from 1 troy ounce to 30 grams in 2016.

Pre-1933 US Gold Coins

$20 Double Eagles (Saint-Gaudens and Liberty Head), $10 Eagles, $5 Half Eagles and $2.50 Quarter Eagles. These are .900 fine and the gold content is fixed - a $20 Double Eagle holds 0.9675 oz of gold - but the right date, mint mark and grade can be worth several times melt. Every pre-1933 coin is checked against current collector prices before we make an offer.

Gold Bars and Rounds

PAMP, Credit Suisse, Valcambi, Perth Mint and Royal Canadian Mint bars in assay cards, loose bars, and private-mint rounds. Bars without an assay card are tested and weighed in front of you.

03

Silver Coins We Buy in NYC

Silver is where most people leave money on the table, because a pile of old coins does not look valuable. It often is. As silver buyers we buy every form of silver coin and bar:

American Silver Eagles and Modern Bullion

1 oz .999 fine Silver Eagles, Canadian Silver Maple Leafs, Britannias, Philharmonics, Kangaroos and private-mint rounds. Tubes and monster boxes welcome; we count and weigh them while you watch.

Pre-1965 “Junk” Silver

US dimes, quarters and half dollars dated 1964 and earlier are 90 percent silver. The name is misleading: a bag with $100 in face value contains roughly 71.5 troy ounces of silver, which is far more than $100. Kennedy half dollars from 1965 to 1970 are 40 percent silver and are bought at that rate. Bring the whole jar; we sort it for you at no charge.

Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars

Each contains 0.7734 oz of silver, and common dates are bought at bullion-plus. Key dates, Carson City mint marks and high-grade examples are priced as collector coins, which can be many times the silver value.

Silver Bars and Rounds

1 oz to 100 oz bars from Engelhard, Johnson Matthey, Sunshine, Royal Canadian Mint and others. Vintage Engelhard and Johnson Matthey bars sometimes carry a premium above spot.

World Silver Coins

Canadian pre-1968 coins, British pre-1947 coins, Mexican pesos, Swiss francs, German marks and other foreign silver are bought on silver content. Bring them; we identify the silver ones for you.

04

Graded, Certified and Collectible Coins

Coins slabbed by PCGS, NGC or ANACS are priced on their certified grade, not just metal content, and we pay the grade premium on MS-65 and higher bullion and on any scarce date. Raw collectible coins - proof sets, mint sets, commemoratives, type coins, error coins and early US copper - are evaluated individually.

One request, and it matters: do not clean your coins. Polishing, dipping or wiping a collectible coin removes original surfaces and can cut its value by half or more. Bring it exactly as it is, dust and toning included.

05

Inherited Coin Collections and Estates

Many of the collections we buy arrive in a shoebox, a coffee can or an old binder after a parent or grandparent has passed. You do not need to sort or catalogue anything. Bring the whole collection and we will separate bullion from collectible, silver from clad, and tell you what each group is worth. If the estate also includes watches or jewelry, our luxury watch buyers and jewelry buyers can appraise those in the same visit, and executors receive an itemized receipt for the estate file.

For large collections that are difficult to transport, call (646) 693-0365 and we will arrange a time for a full review.

06

How DD Buyers Prices Your Coins

We explain the number, every time. Four things determine what a coin is worth:

1. Metal content

The weight and purity of the coin give its intrinsic value. A 1 oz Gold Eagle, Krugerrand, Maple Leaf or Buffalo each contains one troy ounce of gold. $1 face value of pre-1965 US silver coins contains about 0.715 oz of silver. We weigh and test every coin so the metal content is never a guess.

2. Live spot price

Gold and silver spot prices change throughout the trading day. We quote against the live price at the moment of your appraisal, not a number set that morning, which is why we do not give firm quotes over the phone.

3. Numismatic premium

Date, mint mark, mintage, condition and demand. A common-date Double Eagle sells near melt; a scarce one does not. Graded coins are priced by their slab grade. We check every pre-1933 US gold coin, every silver dollar and every proof against current collector sales.

4. Quantity

Larger lots are priced more aggressively because we can place them faster. If you are selling a tube of Eagles or a bag of junk silver, say so when you arrive.

What does not affect the price: scratches on bullion coins, missing capsules, missing tubes, or a coin that has been out of its mint packaging. Bullion is bought on metal content, so condition only matters for collectible coins.

What to Bring When You Sell Coins in Manhattan

  • A valid government-issued photo ID.
  • Original tubes, capsules, assay cards, mint boxes and certificates of authenticity if you have them (not required).
  • PCGS, NGC or ANACS slabs left sealed - do not crack them open.
  • For estates: a copy of the letters testamentary or executor paperwork if you want the receipt issued to the estate.

Sell, Pawn or Hold? Your Options for Gold and Silver Coins

Sell outright

The simplest route and the highest immediate payout. Many customers sell part of a holding and keep the rest.

Pawn loan against your coins

If you need cash but expect metal prices to rise, a pawn loan lets you borrow against your coins without selling. Bullion is ideal collateral because its value is transparent, there is no credit check, and your coins are stored securely and returned when the loan is repaid.

Hold and sell later

If you are not sure, get the free appraisal anyway. You will know exactly what you own and what it is worth, and you can come back on any day of the week when you decide.

Where to Sell Coins in NYC: Your Options Compared

  • Online bullion dealers - transparent pricing on common bullion, but you ship first, pay the shipping and insurance, and wait for payment. No numismatic evaluation.
  • Coin shows and auctions - can be good for rare numismatic pieces, but seller fees of 10 to 20 percent and long waits are standard, and bullion rarely does better than a direct sale.
  • Banks - do not buy coins.
  • Mall kiosks and “we buy gold” storefronts - fast, but offers are often well under melt value, and collector coins are bought as scrap.
  • General pawn shops - price coins conservatively because they lack a resale channel for bullion.
  • Diamond District coin buyers like DD Buyers - live spot pricing, numismatic review, same-day cash, open seven days, no fees and no shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions About Selling Coins in NYC

Who are the best coin buyers in Manhattan?

The strongest offers for gold and silver coins in Manhattan come from Diamond District buyers on West 47th Street, because they resell directly into the dealer and collector market without a wholesaler in between. DD Buyers, at 55 West 47th Street Suite 203A, prices coins against the live spot price in front of you, checks every coin for collector value, and pays the same day in cash or by card. We are open seven days a week.

Where is the best place to sell gold coins in NYC?

For American Gold Eagles, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, Buffalos and pre-1933 US gold, the best place to sell in NYC is a Diamond District buyer that quotes on live spot and reviews numismatic value. DD Buyers does both, with no fees, no shipping and no appointment. Most gold coin appraisals take under fifteen minutes.

Where can I sell silver coins in NYC?

DD Buyers buys American Silver Eagles, pre-1965 junk silver dimes, quarters and halves, Morgan and Peace dollars, silver bars and rounds, and world silver coins at 55 West 47th Street in Midtown Manhattan. Bring the whole jar or bag; we sort clad from silver at no charge and pay on the live silver price.

How much are my gold coins worth?

A 1 oz Gold Eagle, Krugerrand, Maple Leaf or Buffalo contains one troy ounce of gold, so its base value is the live gold spot price. Fractional coins are worth their fraction of spot. Pre-1933 US gold, proof coins and graded coins can be worth more than their metal content depending on date, mint mark and grade. We check both values on every coin and explain the offer.

Do you buy coin collections and inherited coins?

Yes. DD Buyers buys whole collections and estate lots in any condition and any state of organization. We sort bullion from collectible, silver from clad, and foreign from US, and give you an itemized offer. Executors receive a receipt for the estate file. For large collections, call (646) 693-0365 to arrange a full review.

Should I clean my coins before selling them?

No. Never clean, polish or dip coins before selling. Cleaning removes original surfaces and can reduce a collectible coin’s value by half or more. Bullion coins are bought on metal content, so scratches and marks do not matter, and collectible coins are worth the most exactly as they are.

Do I need an appointment to sell coins at DD Buyers?

No. Walk in any day of the week between 10 AM and 6 PM at 55 West 47th Street, Suite 203A. Bring a government-issued photo ID, which New York law requires for every precious-metal purchase. If you cannot visit, request a free insured mail-in kit and we will appraise your coins by mail.
