DD Buyers in Manhattan - Gold, Diamond, Watch, Coin and Jewelry Buyers in NYC’s Diamond District

Sell Gold, Diamonds, Watches, Coins and Jewelry in Manhattan - One Office, Open Seven Days

If you live or work anywhere in Manhattan, you are never more than a subway ride from the best place in the city to sell gold, diamonds, watches and jewelry. DD Buyers is at 55 West 47th Street, Suite 203A, in the middle of the Diamond District, the block between 5th and 6th Avenue where New York’s precious-metal and gemstone trade has been based for generations. We buy directly from the public, we price against the live market, and we pay the same day in cash or by card.

Most buyers on this block keep bankers’ hours. We do not. DD Buyers is open seven days a week, 10 AM to 6 PM, so a nurse coming off a shift at Mount Sinai, a trader leaving the Financial District on a Saturday, or a family settling an estate on the Upper West Side on a Sunday can all walk in without rearranging their week. There is no appointment to book and the appraisal is free.

Where DD Buyers Is in the Diamond District

Ask a New Yorker where to sell jewelry in Manhattan and they will point you to 47th Street. The Diamond District is one block long, runs between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue (Avenue of the Americas), and is marked at both ends by the diamond-shaped lampposts. More than two thousand businesses operate on this single block, from street-level exchanges to upper-floor dealers, cutters, setters and refiners. It is the largest diamond trading center in the United States, and because so many buyers and sellers are concentrated here, prices are set by competition rather than by whatever a local shop in another neighborhood feels like paying.

DD Buyers is on the north side of the street at number 55, closer to the 6th Avenue end. We are not a street-level counter. Our office is Suite 203A on the second floor, which keeps your visit private and lets us take the time to appraise properly.

How to find Suite 203A

Enter at 55 West 47th Street, sign in at the lobby desk if asked (bring photo ID, which you will need for the sale anyway), and take the elevator or stairs to the second floor. Suite 203A is marked on the building directory. If you are unsure, call (646) 693-0365 from the lobby and we will come down.

A word about the street outside

Walking along 47th Street you will be approached by people asking whether you are buying or selling. They are runners for street-level exchanges, and a seller who follows one into a booth rarely gets a competitive price. Politely keep walking. A reputable Manhattan jewelry buyer has an office, a scale you can see, a written receipt and no interest in rushing you.

What Manhattan Residents Sell to DD Buyers

The same office handles everything, so a mixed box from a closet or an estate can be sorted and priced in one visit. Here is what comes through our door most often, and where to read more about each.

Cash for gold in Manhattan

Broken chains, single earrings, class rings, dental gold, bangles brought back from abroad, and the 14-karat and 18-karat jewelry New Yorkers stop wearing but never throw away. Gold is weighed and tested in front of you and priced on the live London Fix at the moment of your visit. Our rates are the reason people from the Upper East Side to Washington Heights choose to sell gold in NYC here rather than at a “we buy gold” storefront near Times Square or a neighborhood jeweler who will only bring it to 47th Street himself.

Diamonds and engagement rings in Manhattan

Engagement rings after a divorce or a broken engagement, inherited solitaires, tennis bracelets and loose stones. Every diamond is graded in front of you to GIA standards and priced on current market sales, with the setting valued separately. Our engagement ring and diamond buyers also pay designer premiums on Tiffany, Cartier, Harry Winston and Van Cleef & Arpels pieces.

Watches and Rolex in Manhattan

Rolex above all, then Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Cartier, Omega and Breitling. Manhattan has more luxury watches per square mile than almost anywhere on earth, and a large share of them eventually come to 47th Street to be sold. Our Rolex and luxury watch buyers verify the reference and serial, inspect the movement and make a same-day cash offer, box and papers or not.

Gold and silver coins in Manhattan

American Gold Eagles bought as an investment, Krugerrands from a parent’s safe-deposit box at a Park Avenue bank, silver dollars, pre-1965 dimes and quarters, and graded collections. Our coin buyers price bullion on live spot and check every coin for collector value before quoting.

Silver in Manhattan

Sterling flatware sets and tea services from pre-war apartments, Tiffany and Georg Jensen silver, silver bars and rounds. Sterling is weighed and priced on the live silver price, with signed pieces evaluated for a premium above melt.

Jewelry in Manhattan

Everything that does not fit neatly above: gold and platinum jewelry with colored stones, estate pieces, designer jewelry, pearls, and the mixed lots that come out of a safe-deposit box when an apartment is sold. As jewelry buyers in Midtown Manhattan we see every kind of piece, and we price each one on metal, stones and maker.

Pawn loans in Manhattan

Not everyone wants to sell. If you need cash for a few weeks or months and want your Rolex, ring or gold back afterwards, our pawn shop service lends against the item, stores it securely in the Diamond District and returns it when the loan is repaid. No credit check, because the loan is secured by the item itself.

03

Why Manhattan Sellers Come to the Diamond District Instead of a Local Shop

There are jewelry stores on every commercial street in Manhattan, and most of them will make an offer on your gold if you ask. Here is what happens next: the store brings your gold to 47th Street and sells it to a dealer like us. The offer you received was the dealer’s price minus the store’s margin. Coming to the Diamond District yourself removes that margin, and on a few ounces of gold or a one-carat diamond the difference is not small.

The second reason is expertise. A general jeweler prices a Rolex, a pre-1933 gold coin or a signed Cartier bracelet the same way they price scrap, because they do not have a market for the premium. On this block there is a buyer for everything, and we know what each piece is worth to that buyer.

The third reason is simple convenience. Many Midtown dealers are closed Saturdays for religious observance and closed Sundays, which leaves working New Yorkers with weekday lunch hours. DD Buyers is open all seven days.

Getting to DD Buyers from Every Manhattan Neighborhood

The nearest subway is 47-50 Streets Rockefeller Center on the B, D, F and M lines, with an exit on 6th Avenue at 47th Street, about two minutes’ walk from our door. The 49th Street station on the N, R and W is one block north at 7th Avenue, and 5th Avenue-53rd Street on the E and M is a five-minute walk. From most of Manhattan, you are inside the office in under thirty minutes.

Midtown, Times Square, Hell’s Kitchen and Rockefeller Center

Walk. From Times Square it is about eight minutes east along 47th Street; from Grand Central, ten minutes west along 47th; from Hell’s Kitchen, ten to fifteen minutes depending on your block. Office workers at Rockefeller Center and along 6th Avenue can be here and back on a lunch break.

Upper East Side

Take the 4, 5 or 6 train south to 51st Street and walk four blocks south and one block west, about seven minutes. From the Q at 72nd or 86th Street, ride to 57th Street-7th Avenue and walk ten minutes south and east. Door to door, twenty to twenty-five minutes. Upper East Side estates are a large part of what we see: pre-war apartments hold decades of fine gold, silver flatware and signed jewelry, and we price those pieces for what they are, not for melt alone.

Upper West Side and Lincoln Center

The B or D from 72nd, 81st or 96th Street runs straight to 47-50 Streets Rockefeller Center with no transfer, roughly fifteen minutes. From Lincoln Center or Columbus Circle, the B or D is two stops. The 1 train to Times Square and a short walk works just as well.

Chelsea, Flatiron, Gramercy and Murray Hill

From Chelsea, the C or E from 23rd Street to 50th Street and a six-minute walk, or the E to 5th Avenue-53rd Street. From the Flatiron and Gramercy, the N, R or W from 23rd Street to 49th Street, about twelve minutes. Murray Hill residents can take the 6 from 33rd Street to 51st Street or simply walk north on Madison or 5th, which takes about fifteen minutes.

Downtown: Financial District, Tribeca, SoHo, the Villages and the Lower East Side

From the Financial District, the 4 or 5 express to Grand Central and a ten-minute walk, or the E from World Trade Center directly to 5th Avenue-53rd Street. From SoHo and the West Village, the F from Broadway-Lafayette or West 4th Street runs straight to 47-50 Streets Rockefeller Center. From the East Village and Lower East Side, the F from 2nd Avenue or Delancey does the same. Count on twenty to thirty minutes.

Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood

The B or D from 125th Street comes directly to 47-50 Streets Rockefeller Center in about twenty minutes. From Washington Heights and Inwood, the A express to 42nd Street-Port Authority and a ten-minute walk, or the C to 50th Street.

Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and New Jersey

We are not only a Manhattan buyer. The F and D from Brooklyn, the F and M from Queens, and the B and D from the Bronx all stop at 47-50 Streets Rockefeller Center without a transfer. The E from Queens stops at 5th Avenue-53rd Street. The 7 from Flushing and Long Island City stops at 5th Avenue-Bryant Park, a six-minute walk. From New Jersey, take NJ Transit or the PATH to 33rd Street and walk fifteen minutes north, or arrive at Port Authority and walk ten minutes east. Long Island Rail Road riders arrive at Grand Central Madison or Penn Station; Metro-North riders arrive at Grand Central, ten minutes away on foot.

Driving and parking

If you are bringing a large estate or coin collection by car, there are parking garages on West 46th and West 48th Streets within a block of the office. Street parking in Midtown is not realistic. Call ahead for large lots and we will have a desk ready.

How a Visit to DD Buyers Works

Most people are in and out in twenty minutes. Larger estates take longer, and that is fine; we would rather spend an hour and get every piece right.

  • Walk in to Suite 203A, any day of the week between 10 AM and 6 PM. No appointment needed.
  • Show a government-issued photo ID. New York law requires every precious-metal and secondhand-jewelry buyer to record it, which protects sellers as much as buyers.
  • Watch the appraisal. Gold and silver are tested and weighed on the scale in front of you. Diamonds are graded under proper light. Watches are checked for authenticity. Coins are identified and weighed. Nothing leaves your sight.
  • Get a written, itemized offer with the spot price, grades or reference numbers it was based on.
  • Decide. Accept and you are paid immediately in cash or by card, with a receipt. Decline and you take everything home at no charge and without pressure.

If you cannot get to Midtown

Customers across New York State and the rest of the country can request a free appraisal kit. We send a prepaid, fully insured FedEx label, you ship the items, and we call with an itemized offer within one business day of receiving the package. Accept and you are paid by direct deposit or check; decline and the items are returned at our expense.

What to Bring

  • The items, in whatever condition they are in. Broken, tangled, stopped or missing pieces is all fine.
  • A valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport or state ID).
  • Certificates, boxes, papers, receipts or old appraisals if you have them. None are required, but a GIA report or a Rolex warranty card raises the offer.
  • For estates: executor paperwork if you want the receipt issued to the estate.

How Prices Are Set in Manhattan - and Why Ours Hold Up

Gold and silver are priced from the live spot market, adjusted for purity and weight. Diamonds are priced from current sales of comparable stones, graded on carat, color, clarity and cut. Watches are priced from the secondary market for that exact reference and condition. Coins are priced on metal content plus any collector premium. None of this is secret, and we explain every number before you decide.

What makes a Manhattan offer competitive is what the buyer does with the item afterwards. DD Buyers sells into the Diamond District market directly, with no wholesaler in between, so the margin that a neighborhood shop, a mall kiosk or an online buyer would keep stays with you. Our service pages for gold, diamonds, watches and coins explain the pricing of each in detail.

08

Serving Manhattan Estates, Executors and Professionals

A good share of our work in Manhattan comes through estate attorneys, executors, building managers and family members clearing an apartment. We can appraise an entire estate in one sitting, sort jewelry from bullion from collectibles, issue an itemized receipt in the name of the estate, and hold items under a pawn arrangement if the family needs time. Jewelers, pawnbrokers and dealers from the outer boroughs and New Jersey also sell to us regularly, which tells you something about our rates.

09

Hours, Holidays and Accessibility

DD Buyers is open Monday through Sunday, 10 AM to 6 PM. We close on major federal holidays; check our contact page or call (646) 693-0365 before a holiday visit. The building has an elevator to the second floor. Cash and card are both accepted for payment, and card payment is available for larger transactions where carrying cash through Midtown is not sensible.
